€790.000 - Villa or country house
In 1896 this stunning manor house was built as part of a complex of historic buildings on the lower slopes of the Tiber Valley. It is attached to a church from the year 1218 as well as to a ancient dovecot tower. The mansion is built in limestone which can be found locally and features many authentic wall and ceiling decorations.
The ground floor used to harbor the stables and storage rooms of the mansion. A large part (150 sq m) has been transformed into a stunning artist studio with vaulted ceilings and impressive columns supporting them. The other former warehouse spaces are also in use as artist studio’s but can easily be given another destination.
The front door, surrounded by large travertine stone slabs, leads to a wide staircase going up to the first floor where the living quarters are located. Directly opposite the staircase is the narrow but long stretched library with a vaulted ceiling, an intriguing space. To the left the very large and spacious upper floor features a sitting room, followed by a kitchen which connects to an anteroom with a small balcony and a lovely view towards the valley. After the anteroom the layout consist of two rows of rooms lined up and connecting to each other mainly without a hallway. The anteroom connects to the so called ‘Pink Room’, obviously because the dominant color on the wall is pink, which is in use as a dining room and may be regarded as the most important one since it is still completely decoratied with wall and ceiling painting. To the left of the pink room is another siting room which connect to a hallway with a bathroom and at the end a bedroom with en-suite bathroom. From the pink room the lay-out continues with yet another sitting room, connecting to the hallway with bathroom, and this third sitting room connects to a second bedroom.
A large outdoor garden with a covered terrace and mature trees provides shade and a very pleasant outdoor space. Next to the garden lies an agricultural field which is part of the property as well.
At only a few kilometers from the historic center of Todi the hamlet where this property is located has a very central position in Umbria. The Tiber Valley, in this area largely protected as the ‘Parco Fluviale’, offers beautiful views and hiking or biking trails. Between the E45 and A1 highways Rome, Perugia and Tuscany are easy destinations. Smaller towns like Orvieto, Monte Falco, Spoleto and many enchanting villages are nearby and equally nice.
